Darryl Conway is the Senior Associate Athletic Director, Chief Health & Welfare Officer, & Chief Infection Officer for University of Michigan Athletics.  He is the owner of Conway Ventures, LLC and a founding partner and owner of Sports Medicine Emergency Management, LLC.  Previously, Darryl has enjoyed clinical roles with the New York Jets Football Club in the NFL as an Assistant Athletic Trainer, as the Director of Sports Medicine and Head Football Athletic Trainer at the University of Delaware, Morgan State University, the University of Northern Iowa, and the University of Central Florida. Darryl also has extensive experience in the emergency medical services, including thirteen (13) years as an emergency medical technician and seven (7) years as a tactical emergency medical technician (EMT-T) working with the Laurel, MD and Greenbelt, MD Police Department SWAT teams.


Darryl earned his Magna Cum Laude bachelor’s degree in Physical Education Studies and Athletic Training from the University of Delaware (1993), and a Master of Arts degree in Physical Education and a Certificate in Sports Management from Adelphi University (1995).


Darryl has held leadership positions within the National Athletic Trainers’ Association as Chair-Elect of the NATA’s Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee, Transitional Employment Workgroup, Degree Task Force, & Committee on Professional Ethics.  Darryl has also served on the Michigan Athletic Trainers’ Society Committee on Practice Advancement, the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association & Maryland Athletic Trainers’ Association College and University Athletic Trainers Committees.


Darryl has been recognized for his professional accomplishments from several organizations.  He is the recipient of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Most-Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award, and the College Athletic Trainers’ Society’s prestigious Quality of Life Award.  The University of Delaware presented Darryl with its Presidential Citation for Outstanding Achievement, and the Laurel Police Department presented Darryl with its Chief’s Award and Outstanding Citizenship Award.
