Martin “Marty” Matney has been an NATA BOC Certified Athletic Trainer since 1983. A graduate of Washington State University, he has held athletic training positions that include the US Military Academy, Seattle Seahawks, a consultant to the Seattle Supersonics and Seattle Mariners. He has over 25 years’ physical therapy clinical experience as an Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist Assistant, including 10 years as a partner in a sports medicine/rehabilitation clinic. He holds a Paralegal certificate.
While contracted to a Fortune 100 company, Matney developed an injury prevention/early intervention program utilizing athletic trainers. This contributed to the development and growth of the industrial athlete program, utilizing injury prevention, ergonomics and OSHA first-aid techniques with front-line workers.
Matney has been active in athletic training licensure and legislative efforts throughout the US. He has 30+ years volunteering in the National Athletic Trainers Association and developed the NATA Council on Practice Advancement. He has several state and regional awards and Matney is a Member of the NATA Hall of Fame, and a Public Policy Fellow of the National Academies of Practice. He has spoken at numerous sports medicine symposia in the US and internationally.
